ONE of the most unusual Bentleys ever seen has become the star of a Berlin exhibition by famous artist Romero Britto, forming a canvas for his cheerful and vivid signature motifs.

The Continental GT features a large, happy flower, little stars, squiggles and signs dance on the elegant hood and colourful, comic-like figures adorn the doors.

The Crewe firm donated the coupe on the occasion of Britto´s Berlin exhibition Come to my World in the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden.

Britto, one of the most admired and popular artists currently working within pop art, creates pieces specifically to put a smile on people´s faces.

Having grown up in poverty in Recife, Brazil, his work belies his background by creating a fantasy world inhabited by child-like creatures and optimistic, strong colours.

Crazy Pop Culture PDF Print E-mail

Popular culture gets some good-natured ribbing in several new exhibits at the Art Gallery of Windsor.

The whimsical murals of Canada's Adrian Norvid dominate the third-floor walls of the gallery in Showstoppers, Whoppers, Downers and Out-of-Towners, which opened last weekend.

"He's a lot like Monty Python," said AGW collections manager Cassandra Getty. "He takes a wry look at contemporary culture."

The British-born Norvid teaches drawing at Concordia University in Montreal. His images recall the comic-book style of Robert Crumb, of Keep On Truckin' fame, and American Splendor's Harvey Pekar.

The large seven-to-eight-metre drawings depict a pop culture gone crazy with lots of visual jokes and references to rock music. In the work 40 Sucks, for instance, Norvid depicts through caricatures several aging rock stars and the game is trying to guess who's who.
